The ambitious artwork started with listening. His collection of audio recordings WERE the raw data – which were then digitally transformed into visual patterns – patterns that echo the shape of the clouds, the movement of trees, birdsong, conversations, traffic and machinery. Each of the 11 million dots resembles a sound from the environment, capturing the soul of the Park Royal neighbourhood. The audio recordings reflect the diversity of the area whereby each sound has a unique fingerprint or visual waveform.

THE PERFORATION PROCESS

• We developed and tested multiple perforation patterns using varied punch sizes, spacings, and orientations to best represent the artist’s image.

• Smaller perforations were selected to achieve the required detail and contrast.

• The artwork was divided into 9m x 3m sections to manage the complex geometry, with unique perforation patterns created for each.

• Patterns were overlaid on elevation drawings, aligned across sections, and adjusted to remove holes in cassette shadow gaps and borders.

• 3D models and .DXF files were produced for CNC cutting and perforation, followed by CNC folding of each cassette.

• Panels underwent inspection, stiffener welding, powder coating, and final quality checks before being packed and delivered to site.
