Architectural Profiles Limited (APL) has achieved a 5 Green Star industrial design rating for its new home in Cambridge, with its approach to sustainable and occupant friendly design.

The speed and ease of installation of Kingspan’s insulated panel range has helped to enhance project timelines on the new 50,000sqm APL facility in Cambridge. Kingspan’s Evolution Panelised Façade was installed on the exterior and KS1100CS Cold Store Panels in the interior to create separation of space. Over 50,000sqm of Kingspan’s KS1000RW trapezoidal roofing was installed making it one of the largest roofing projects undertaken by Kingspan in Australasia. Because the roof installation progressed quickly it allowed the rest of the building construction to also proceed, including the concrete flooring. By working with the architect, builder and installer Kingspan was able to assist so the detailing process was also rapid, providing advice and product options to deliver the performance and aesthetics that was required in terms of roof and wall paneling on the project.

“Kingspan Insulated Panels, incorporating insulation between two steel faces, are manufactured entirely off site to the required length, including cut backs for gutters and laps. The entire panel is then installed on the building with no need for common additional products such as building paper, mesh, insulation etc. The Kingspan insulated panel range also offers benefits of good thermal and fire rating performance as well as being low maintenance,” explains Kingspan’s Business Development Manager, Richard Fereday.

Kingspan’s roofing and wall panel systems include Kingspan’s unique PIR insulation core to provide high thermal performance, insulation continuity, minimal air leakage and the elimination of interstitial condensation and cold bridging.   Kingspan wall panels and roof panels have achieved a GreenTagCert Gold Plus certification with a GreenRate Level A. Both the roof and external wall panels used on the project are CodeMark™ approved, which means they meet the New Zealand Building Code. Kingspan guarantees the coating, structural, durability and thermal performance of its roof and wall panels for up to 15 years.

Richard says that Foster Construction has previously used Kingspan products on other projects, including APL manufacturing facilities, so the companies had a history of working together which has also helped the large project to run smoothly.

The new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility will feature the latest technologies in construction, hybrid mechanical services, electronic LED lighting and manufacturing machinery.
