The building, equivalent in size to 12 professional football pitches, was the retailer's first national distribution centre and one of the UK's largest at the time.

Contractor McLaren Construction set out to finish the entire project in just 24 weeks, a world record for a building of this type. Installer FK Group, tasked with constructing the external building envelope, chose to use a range of our panel systems to achieve this.

The walls were created from 20,000m² of AWP Wall Panels* in Mini-Micro in a range of widths. These single-component, easy-to-install panels were specified in Gazeley Blues— a bespoke range of Kingspan colours supplied exclusively to the developer— which were installed in horizontal bands to blend the large facility into the skies above. These were used alongside 12,000m² of KS1000RW Roof panels* in XL Forté Merlin Grey and Sapphire Blue for key parts of the build.

The building was topped with a massive 87,000m² roof which consisted of 72,000m² of KS1000RW Roof Panels with Day-Lite Trapezoidal roof lights to maximise natural light in the building. Thanks to the straightforward panelised construction and easy integration of these two products, as well as the bespoke fabrications, the roof was completed in just nine weeks.
