Western Sydney International Airport

A new international airport in the heart of Western Sydney utilises our KingZip Standing Seam system for installation efficiency and outstanding thermal and acoustic performance.

Western Sydney International Airport

A new international airport has been built in the heart of Western Sydney. Located in Badgerys Creek, the airport will be a hub of international travel and provide an invaluable boost to the local economy.

On track to open in late 2026, Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI) will be Sydney’s first 24-hour domestic, international and cargo gateway. It will have the capacity to accommodate up to 10 million passengers a year and will eventually grow to become Australia’s primary international airport. Multiplex was awarded the contract for the terminal and speciality services. Their project covered a large portion of the airport, including the main terminal building, the aviation fuel storage facility, car parks, landscaping and the apron. With such a large surface area to cover, innovative techniques were needed to ensure the construction process ran efficiently.

Our Products and Installation:

Our KingZip Standing Seam system was installed onto the main terminal building’s roof in collaboration with Red8 Roofing. On-site manufacturing of the 77-metre-long KingZip Standing Seam roofing sheets was a key part of the installation process. A cutting-edge machine was designed specifically for this project and was used to roll each sheet to fit perfectly onto the structure. This process not only demonstrates the adaptability and customisability of the KingZip system but also how it benefits the construction process. By rolling the sheets on-site, the installation process was more efficient, reduced waste and enabled rapid coverage of large surface areas. Locally sourced Colorbond steel was used in the project, supporting the local economy and Western Sydney jobs.

The airport has high acoustic and thermal requirements, given its location, and by using the KingZip Standing Seam system, the new airport will benefit from its outstanding performance. To provide for the airport’s needs, the KingZip system was customised with a specifically designed internal liner to boost its acoustic and thermal values even further.

The system can be customised to suit the Rw, NRC and R-Value requirements needed for each unique project, which can be discussed with our technical services team.
